The Dietary Aide assists the cook in preparing food in quantities sufficient enough for patient meals. They prepare special food as needed for therapeutic diets by following the prepared menu. They set up tables and room trays and serve meals, clear tables and do dishes. They will also perform related duties and other duties as assigned. Salary $9.00 to $11.05 based on experience.
Responsibilities: Prepares cold food and dessert items Assures quality of food and assists cook as needed Assures proper food counts Maintains clean working environments Follows established guidelines for food handling Interacts appropriately with residents, family and peers Sets tables, cleans tables Washes dishes, may wash pots and pans as needed Completes other assigned duties when not cooking/preparing food
Special Demands: Genuine interest in working with geriatric residents and food service as related to total patient care Ability to cooperate with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments Ability to follow recipes and menus, especially related to therapeutic diets Ability to follow meal schedule Ability to work under pressure at peak periods Willingness and cooperation in following instructions as given Willingness to prepare food for special occasions as requested Use of initiative and good judgement within the bounds of job description
Qualifications: Ability to read, write and follow written and oral directions Basic mathematics ability necessary in following recipes Basic knowledge of quantity food preparation and cooking beneficial Ability to estimate relative quantities of food, per written recipes Ability to judge portion control Familiar with health regulations as published by the public health department. Genuine interest in food service
Work Environment: Clean, well-lit ventilated kitchen Controlled climate except when moving among walk-in refrigerators/freezer Subject to burns from food and utensils Possibility of injury related to falls and cuts
